Things I love

Things I love #1 – My fiancé/family/friends/dogs.

Okay, nothing funny to say there.

This I love #2 – Cake.

My love for cake is not normal. I love to bake. I love to decorate. And every time I do I get so pissed off because it doesn’t look perfect. But, in the end? It doesn’t matter what it looks like. It matters what it TASTES like. Cakes that don’t count – carrot cake, cheesecake, and fruit cake. These three things are NOT cake.

Cake is not to be taken lightly. You are not supposed to put carrots in cake. Carrots are meant for rabbits, salads, and ranch dressing. WHY would you destroy such a lovely cake with carrots? I shudder to think of the other vegetables people put in cakes. My mom has threatened on more than one occasion that she will make a tomato soup cake. Y’all… this is when I hide the mixer. I can NOT allow such an monstrosity in my house!

Cheesecake is NOT cake. It’s more like a pie. If you could classify it as cheesepie, then I wouldn’t be so against it. When I was in 8th grade, my mom had this cheesecake bars in the fridge. It was CHOCOLATE with CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE. Chocolate x2? It HAD to be delicious. I was on the phone with my friend Taylor when I opened one up. He thought I was dying. That was one of the most vile things I put in my mouth. Seriously, how do you guys eat that? It’s just not right.

And then there’s fruitcake. Yup… our good ol’ Christmastime treat. Who doesn’t want a cake that’s been stuffed with crap? Cherry pieces, nuts… oh are those skittles left over from Halloween of 1990? Throw those in, too! E.W. Who the heck eats that fruitcake? I’m pretty sure it would make a great doorstop. Don’t hold me to that, though… the door might try to kill it by slamming shut.

What things do you love?

I’m reviving my Tumblr account.

Bathroom Tales

If you know me, you’d know I’m famous for 2 things. 1.) Having horrible luck with traffic & 2.) having horrible luck with bathrooms. Today – I’m going to tell you about the latter.

Yes, I have the worst (or is it best?) bathroom stories. I always get stuck with the weirdos, for example:

  • On our way to Disney 2 years ago, we stopped at a gas station in Florida to go to the restroom. Nothing weird about that, right? It wasn’t a large restroom, 2 stalls, so my friends Hannah and Kaytea went first. Then I went and they left and someone else came in… and started to take a shower in the sink. It was SO awkward! I hid in the stall the whole time. Everyone thought I had fallen in, but I didn’t want to come out to the naked sink-shower lady.
  • On that same trip to Disney, while in the park it rained (as it tends to do) and a woman came in the restroom and took her shirt off to hold under a hand dryer. Seriously…
  • Let’s just say on at least 2 occasions I’ve had someone come in and start making some “noises” in the stall.
  • Also, can we talk about how there can be 12 empty stalls and they feel the need to pick the stall directly next to mine. It’s weird.
  • At work one day a lady was using the restroom but hadn’t shut and locked the door.
  • Also at work, I had an old lady peeking through the cracks at me. It was odd. I’m guessing she was trying to see if someone was in there, but she should’ve just knocked on the door.

Those are just some of my fun stories. Have you ever had anything weird happen to you while in the restroom? (Yes, I realize how weird that question is…)

Gluttony.

Seven guilty pleasures. Don’t judge me…

1.) Black Olives. I will eat them straight out of the can. I love them and add them to everything – Sandwiches, Salads, Scrambled Eggs, Pizza, Pasta, etc.

2.) Desperate Housewives – Yes, I watch this. Don’t judge. Actually, I’m terribly behind and need to catch up!

3.) This one I even hate to admit – Pretty Little Liars. Yup. The first book was offered from Barnes and Noble for free in eBook form over the summer and a week later I had finished all 7 books. At least it’s not Twilight ;)

4.) Garlic Salt – YUMMY!

5.) Cupcakes – Specifically Gigi’s and Muddy’s. SO YUM!

6.) Sleep – obviously.

7.) Window Shopping. I used to be horrible at the not spending money thing, but now that I’m saving up for wedding stuff I’m doing better at just looking at stuff and not buying it.

Off Topic – There’s a dude sitting next to me while I’m at school and he sniffs every 5 seconds. This is driving me crazy. I have my headphones in with the Beatles playing at 70% volume on my computer and I can STILL HEAR HIM! So, do I just ignore it or do I start sniffing every time he does? Decisions, decisions…

Greed

Greed. Seven worldly material desires.

1.) Photoshop – I have Lightroom and I love how it can turn plain pictures into something that looks so lovely! I’d love to have Photoshop to give it some extra oomph!

2.) These shoes from BHLDN. BHLDN is Anthropologie’s new wedding store and I am in love with most of their shoes, but these are my absolute favorites.

3.) This Book and this book to help me better understand light design in Theatre. It’s my favorite part of the job, you know.

4.) A Mac – any kind will do. I’ve read that it’s great for photo editing. :)

5.) Delicious Disney Cookbook so I can cook some food from my favorite place when I can’t be there.

6.) My own Nikon DSLR with some basic lenses

7.) the Menlo Lamp from Anthroplogie

I don’t talk about my jobs on here very often because it’s sort of inappropriate but I also want to share with you my love of Theatre. I’m thinking of doing a short series on “behind the scenes” of what happens in theatre when you go see a play/ballet/concert/etc. I won’t focus on specific aspects of the theatre I work at so much, as I’m going to give you the jest of the magic that happens. I went in to this job having no idea how awesome it would end up being. So, be on the possible look out for that. :)

Mishmash Wednesday

  • I haven’t failed miserably at the 365 thing – I’ve just be very overwhelmed with the semester starting back up. I might make a separate section for it, though. Now that I’m back into the swing of things, I’ll be able to stop putting my blog on the back-burner. I’d like to see this go places!
  • I found approximately 13 local venues for our wedding. Tony has the list and is ranking them. Unfortunately, the city we live in has zero internet life when it comes to weddings. Even on Weddingbee, there’s nothing! Hm… maybe it’s time SOMEONE fixed that?
  • If you’re going to steal someones “regular” seat and force them to sit behind you, know that person is reading your text messages during class. For example: “How are your hickeys?” “I”m going by the house, they’re so bad right now.” “Did you use that girls makeup?” has nothing to do with  Accounting… just fyi.
  • Just a friendly reminder, you’re actually supposed to park INBETWEEN the lines in a parking lot. Just in case, you know, you forgot.
  • My birthday was this past Sunday. I’m 23.
  • It might actually take me an extra semester to graduate than I previously planned on, unless I come up with some extra cash to take summer classes.
  • It’s really hard not to spend money you get from Christmas and your birthday on Photoshop. Even if it IS cheaper for students, it’s not something I should buy right now… I think… maybe… (help me).
  • I really miss Disneyworld.
  • All you peeps out there that have been married, did you use a wedding planning book/binder/thing? If so, do you recommend yours? I could totally use some help since there are literally about 100 to choose from.
  • I cleaned my office at work today. It’s really empty in there now…
  • It’s snowed here 3 separate times since the new year began… for as long as I can remember that’s NEVER happened here.
  • Mishmash Wednesday would be cuter if it were Mishmash Monday – but alas… it’s not Monday.
  • SoulPancake commented on my last blog post and it made me smile! I can not recommend their book enough. I’ll post a real review of it (along with others from my 101 books project) soon!

It’s Mishmash Wednesday. What are some of your random thoughts?

Is it seriously December already?

Y’all… it’s December. This semester has FLOWN by. You know what this means? Time for finals. I only have 2 to take, so that shouldn’t be too bad… I hope…

Yesterday was opera day at school. So I was busy in the box office selling tickets. It was a long day since I was at school at 7:30ish am (meaning I was up even earlier because it takes about 45 min to get to school from my house) to do some final studying for my Economics exam I took at 9:10. After that, it was straight office work until 8 or so, when I went to my car to go home.

Memphis isn’t really a bad area of town, but when it’s dark I prefer to be on the phone when I walk to my car. I’d probably feel that way no matter where I lived. So, I called Tony and when I got to my car it wouldn’t start. I have no idea what’s wrong with it. I’m hoping it’s an easy fix and nothing serious. So right now I’m using Tony’s car and he’s using his dad’s while his dad is out-of-town. I was so frustrated last night. From Tuesday to yesterday it’s been a mess, and I was so tired (I didn’t get home until well after midnight) and let’s just say I wasn’t at my best during this situation. It’s a good thing Tony’s awesome, otherwise I’m sure I would’ve exploded.

I even wore a nice outfit (ie, not jeans/t-shirt) but in my frustration I didn’t take a photo so I’ll have to recreate that for you to show I’m not always too lazy to look decent!

How was your Friday night? Any fun plans for the weekend?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all had a wonderful day full of family, friends, and food.

I’m SO thankful for:

  • My amazing fiancé
  • My wonderful family
  • My awesome friends
  • My adorable puppies

What are you thankful for?

I’m famous!

I’ve read Cake Wrecks for a while because it’s freaking hilarious. It was the only blog I read on a semi-regular basis. Until it was nominated for some type of award. I don’t remember what award it was, but it was up against a blog called Mommy Wants Vodka. I was hooked on blogging then.

I subscribed to her and some of her readers RSS feeds. I ended up with so many that I put them all in my Google Reader because I didn’t want to miss one hilarious post.

I commented a few times and she’d respond. Then I decided I needed my own real blog (not the Livejournal I had in high school!). So here I am, one of her merry pranksters. And today, I became famous!

You see, Aunt Becky had coined a phrase that Urban dictionary TURNED DOWN! Well, that’s not cool! So, I submitted that sucker and YOU BET THEY ACCEPTED IT! And now she’s in love with me. Don’t tell Tony, I’d hate for them to fight over me… there’s enough awesome to share. I bet you’re curious about what exactly I submitted to Urban Dictionary. Click here to see what the hub-bub is about! I should totally be her personal assistant. I MAKE DREAMS HAPPEN!

P.S. I feel we should use the word hub-bub more.

P.S.S. (or is it P.P.S.?) If you weren’t already reading Mommy Wants Vodka, you should now.

Death of an iPhone.

The day before yesterday, my phone died. Full on, never coming back to life, dead. It’s sort of sad, the poor iPhone 3G didn’t see it coming.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays at around noon, I take a Food and Beverage Controls class. Meaning, during lunch time I’m taking a class about FOOD. With a class right before it, and right after it, I don’t really get to eat. Luckily, class let out earlyish with just enough time for me to get food – so I thought. I put my stuff in my office and walked across campus to our University Center (UC) for some lunch. When I made it over there, I made a pit stop in the restroom. Because my phone has a habit of jumping out of my pocket when my pants are pulled down (I promise this will not fall into the TMI category) I put my phone on the toilet paper dispenser so it wouldn’t fall on the floor. Except, apparently whoever was in the stall next to me decided it was time to partytimedance and fell into the stall wall that the toilet paper dispenser was on. That’s how my phone met its fate. Being knocked onto the tile bathroom floor. Not much dignity in that, is there?

So, yesterday Tony and I went to the mall hoping to get a new phone. Sadly, it had to be ordered, so I’m waiting for an e-mail from them saying “COME GET YOUR NEW PHONE!” Until then, I’m using a phone that’s possessed. It doesn’t ring every time someone calls, and it likes to turn itself off and then immediately turn itself right back on. Yeah, I don’t get it either.

The good news is that I was able to save 150+ pictures off of my phone since apparently just the screen isn’t working. I would’ve taken it to Apple, but the warranty was out a long time ago – this was the FIRST iPhone that came out. Smallest memory and everything.

Have any of your possessions ever had an untimely – undignified death?
